The Weatherby Lake Improvement Company, with assistance from the WL Fishing Club,  regularly stocks the lake with various kinds of fish.  These fish are sourced from vendors that follow Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) prevention measures and have been certified and approved by the State of Missouri. Stocking breeds are rotated to ensure an optimum recreational mix and ecological balance.  Types of fish include:
  • Trout
  • Walleye
  • Catfish
  • Red Ear
  • Hybrid Blue Gill
  • Fathead minnows.
The following breeds naturally reproduce in our waters as well:
  • Bass
  • Blue Gill (non-hybrid)
  • Crappie
  • Perch
  • Shad
  • Sunfish

The WLIC periodically tests the fish present in the lake.  Based on a recommendation from the Missouri Department of Natural resources, testing is conducted on a 4-5 year rotation --unless there is an unforeseen event that warrants testing earlier.  The tests primarily look for Mercury and Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).
