General FAQ’s related to docks and spaces. This is just a summary of some of the most frequently asked questions. It is highly recommended that you refer to the Rules and Regulations – especially Appendix C – and confer with the WLIC office prior to making any boat or dock decisions.
I’m buying a house at Weatherby Lake. Is my dock/space included in the sale?
It depends. The waters of the lake are owned and operated by the WLIC. However, if you are purchasing a Lakefront home (1st Tier) and the seller is including the dock as part of the sale, you may keep the existing dock structure on the water provided it is up to current code and you pay a Dock Transfer fee at the time of closing. Second Tier homes (not on the water) do not automatically come with a space nor dock. Keep in mind, there are some Second Tier homes that may look like Lakefront, but they are actually “Lakeview”. Their property lines do not extend to the shoreline.
How do I get a space/dock?
Does a dock always come with a space assignment?
Not always. Some docks are leased directly from the W.L.I.C. and come with both the dock and space on the water. Other assignments are space only and you are responsible for getting/building your own dock. Lastly, there are other situations where the WLIC re assigns you a space, but you may negotiate directly with another WLIC Member who owns a dock next to your space. The WLIC does not broker those arrangements, but they are highly encouraged by the WLIC due to space limitations at the lake.
I found a dock for sale. Any problems with buying used docks?
Potentially. Here are some considerations:
Can I install any type of dock I want?
Rules and regulations are in place to support great concerns for safety. Over time, space and dock specifications are updated. Therefore, we suggest you read the current Rules & Regulations for any detailed questions.
I'm lakefront. How many docks can I have? Any restrictions on size or construction?
Two docks are allowed for lakefront properties, and normally measure 8x12 through 14x20. See Rules and Regulations for details and dock permit application instructions.
How many waiting lists can I be on?
Two.
I just got assigned a spot. I really don't like it. What can I do?
You can still be on a waiting list. When your turn comes up, you can move to the new space provided your dock meets the
standards.
I received a letter saying my dock needs repair. I thought I was “grandfathered.” True?
Many docks are grandfathered from the previous code requirements. However, the WLIC conducts annual safety inspections that will need resolution immediately, i.e, protruding nails, sinking floats, permit placement, warped boards, etc.)

How do I get a space/dock?
- First Tier (lakefront) properties may place a dock on their shoreline provided equipment is up to current codes and all permit fees/annual assessments are paid. Upon availability, second tier member’s docks reside at various WLIC owned and managed “Access Areas” around the lake. 1st tier property owners are excluded from getting space in the WLIC Access Areas.
- Place your name on a waiting list at the WLIC office. Currently, there are no vacant spaces for assignment. Spaces are made available as residents move or they voluntarily relinquish their current assignment. Wait time is very difficult to estimate.

I found a dock for sale. Any problems with buying used docks?
Potentially. Here are some considerations:
- To prevent the spread of Zebra Mussels, used docks may ONLY be sourced from within Weatherby Lake waters. No docks from outside our lake may be used.
- The dock must comply with CURRENT codes. Due to changing safety and space issues, dock size/placement/condition specifications have changed over time. Many docks on the lake have been “grandfathered”. However, any change of ownership may make a dock obsolete at time of new acquisition.
